I am interested to know the rationale behind preventing exertion in phosgene exposed patients. Is this simply to reduce the risk of alveolar exposure or is there a metabolic component?

It is to reduce the likelihood of sucking more phosgene down into the alveoli which increases alveolar exposure which is where it acts.
